NHS England seeking feedback on Genomics services and strategy

NHS England is seeking feedback on the way clinical genomics services are delivered in England, and views on an NHS Genomics Strategy which will set the strategic direction and priorities for genomics in the NHS in England over the next 3-5 years.

Please share the information on this page with all teams and colleagues you think would be interested in taking part in the consultation and survey.

Public consultation on clinical genomics services in England

Clinical Genomics (previously called Clinical Genetics) are services where doctors (typically Clinical Geneticists) and Genetic Counsellors work with other health professionals to diagnose genetic conditions and/or assess the risk a patient will inherit or develop a genetic condition. They provide and co-ordinate treatment for patients with genetic conditions, and counselling and emotional support to patients and their families.

This is your opportunity to share your view on these suggested changes through a questionnaire that you can access here. You will also be able to access a guide to provide an overview of the changes being made (easy-read versions are available on request) as well as other documents you may wish to read.

NHS England will be hosting two webinars to give you a chance to hear more about the changes and to ask questions, aimed at specific audiences:

These sessions are designed to help clarify the changes and, although you will be able to ask questions, we recommend you complete the consultation questionnaire to ensure your views are taken into consideration.

NHS Genomics Strategy Survey

NHS England are developing an NHS Genomics Strategy which will set the strategic direction and priorities for genomics in the NHS in England over the next 3-5 years. This summer they engaged with over 200 key stakeholders, including patients and charities, healthcare professionals, and industry, to inform the development of the strategy.

NHS England has used these stakeholder insights to put together a survey, so that they can gather further input and prioritisation on what the Strategy priorities should be. The survey should take ~20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed here. You do not have to answer all sections of the survey and can choose to respond to the areas that are of most interest or relevance to you.

If you have any questions or require any further information about either the consultation or the survey, please contact the NHS England Genomics Unit on england.genomics@nhs.net
